By the late 19th century, the estate was already supplying grapes to Cockburn's for its iconic Vintage Ports.

Quinta dos Canais has supplied grapes to Cockburn's since the 19th century and was purchased by Cockburn's in 1989.

The name Canais comes from the stone irrigation channels that once directed water from a waterfall to the properties. With its south-facing vineyards overlooking a bend in the Douro River, Quinta dos Canais produces exceptional quality grapes.

With its south-facing vineyards overlooking a bend in the Douro River, Quinta dos Canais is home to mature vines of Touriga Nacional ('Bico de Pato') and Touriga Franca ('Vinha do Alexandre'), planted in the 1990s, producing exceptional grapes for Cockburn's Ports.
